Today is day 10 of @harish_io's Let's Talk Music With Harish workshop. After 9 days of rediscovering my love for music, I want to dedicate a thread to this amazing musician who also happens to be one of the best teachers I've ever had the pleasure of learning from (1/n)
Being a half decent singer with the privilege of classical training, you become fixated about replicating tunes and words. One of my biggest takeaways from this workshop has been to consciously avoid being a mimicry artist, and truly explore the raagam (2/n)
Feel can come at the cost of being correct. Sometimes, it's good to just let your feelings manifest in melody. And it's okay if it doesn't conform to the raagam. A 'small ni' here and a 'big ga' there is not only okay, it could just be the magic your rendition needs (3/n)
Dynamics is perhaps just as important as staying on tune. A ferocious ascending run followed by a soft fhirki on the decay can take you and the people listening to you to many places you didn't think was possible with a composition.
But perhaps my biggest takeaway is that I am beginning to truly listen to music again. I am forever grateful to you for reinforcing my love for music. Although I will miss our evening slot with 20 other amazing musicians, I will continue to dedicate that time to music (5/n)
If you are a musician with some classical training, I strongly recommend @harish_io's workshop. I had a great time doing it, made friends who I will stay in touch with and have had a glimpse into how a truly great musician sees music. (6/n)
