Before the fifteenth century AD in Africa🌍, Mogadishu now in now Somalia🇸🇴 had houses of four to five storeys high and big palaces in its centre with many mosques with cylindrical minarets.
In the 16th century, Duarte Barbosa noted that many ships from the Kingdom of Cambaya sailed to Mogadishu with cloths and spices for which they in return received gold, wax and ivory.
In now Somalia, naval engagements between buccaneers and merchant ships were very common in the Gulf of Aden. These tensions significantly worsened during the 16th century. Making Somalia civilization significant as they built several lighthouses, buildings ships and weapons.
In the late medieval period Somali navies regularly engaged their Portuguese counterparts at sea, the latter of whom were naturally attracted by the commercial reputation of the Somali coast. According to several Chinese records who traded in the area.
