As mentioned earlier, I have had personal experience in managing Covid patients. Things are so bad that I am simply assuming that the Powers are not aware of the ground situation. Maybe their officials are painting a rosy picture for them. Or ...
Maybe, because they and theirs get the red carpet when they are diagnosed with Covid, they simply assume it’s the same for everyone. Or maybe they just don’t care and have given up hoping that the virus will run its course...
Whatever be the case, I am highlight a few critical issues and hope they are addressed. 1) response times on 104, 1929 etc are pathetic – range from no response to extremely delayed response. Try calling them and you will realise.
(2) Testing – Please manage the crowds. Testing centres are likely becoming the hub for transmission of infection.
(3) Reports – this is such a basic thing that I feel ashamed having to repeat this. Everyone tested should get a report. Period. How difficult can that be.
(4) Beds availability. Most Hospitals, at least in BBSR are full. I know from personal experience. Covid Patients are being refused admissions and referred else where (elsewhere too has no beds). Can’t we have a portal displaying available beds at different Hospitals?
(5) Non Covid emergencies need to be managed. Too many incidences of serious patients being refused admission in all Hospitals (and dying) just because they don’t have a Covid test result. This is, frankly, criminal. Medical care cant be denied irrespective of Covid status
(6) Covid Medications. I know of stock outs of at least Remdesivir in Covid Hospitals. Not sure about other anti-virals, Oxygen and other lifesaving medicines.
(7) Look at the rates the premier Private Hospitals are charging for managing Covid patients (very few are actually taking in known cases). They are horrifying. Pure extortion. Someone needs to look into that urgently.
(8) There are many other issues. But my humble suggestions (apart from the ones mentioned in this and previous tweets) are (a) drastically increase the number of beds with Oxygen. I know its easier said than done. But Oxygen is what most serious patients will require.
(b) make antivirals and other essential medications available at all Covid Hospitals. (c) streamline the mechanism from response time on the helpline to the patients being shifted to an appropriate Covid Hospital.
(d) Discourage unnecessary admissions - even for Politicians and Sr Bureaucrats – they are simply blocking precious beds. gain, easier said than done - but someone has to take a stand somewhere.
