Yes, the Guardian really did carry a piece comparing giving JK Rowling a bad book review to the Ayatollah Khomeini issuing a fatwa ordering Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie.
Also slightly bemused by the fashion amongst a particular demographic for labelling critics of JK Rowling as misogynists. Each of YouGov ( https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/articles-reports/2020/07/16/where-does-british-public-stand-transgender-rights) Kantar ( https://www.kantar.com/inspiration/society/attitudes-towards-lgbtq-in-the-uk/) and the BSA ( https://www.bsa.natcen.ac.uk/media/39358/5_bsa36_relationships_and_gender_identity.pdf) report women as more pro trans than men.
Whilst I'm on the subject, I speak to a lot of activists who - in consequence of JK Rowling's decision to sue an impecunious publisher - feel unable to say they think she's transphobic. I think it's fine to say that: sadly (because I admired her hugely) I think she is too.
