Good morning guys.

Today we talk about gum disease (Periodontitis) and the effects it has on the mouth.

[A thread]
Periodontitis is a disease of the mouth where gums swell up and the bone holding teeth gets resorbed till gums start being eaten away and replaced by calculus(tartar) and it releases toxins
How do you know that you have periodontitis?

There are classical signs of it and most of them are inflammatory signs which are: Swelling of Gums, Redness of gums, Bleeding gums, loss of gums, HALITOSIS(a foul smell in the mouth), black stains on the necks of teeth
The root of all this evil is plaque guys.

Yes plaque! This is purely a disease that is controllable and is lifestyle dependent. Well other factors may be certain medications(diabetes medication) and pregnancy but otherwise PLAQUE is the problem
From there the plaque will start calcifying and forming hard stones near the gums and it moved from being plaque to being calculus..

The moment we get there, just know that a toothbrush alone will never salvage the situation, you need a dental consultation
I want you to take note of the previous tweet and see how small it starts. But from there it can aggressively move and your whole mouth will be a mess, your bone will start being eaten and your gums will give in and go down to follow the bone
Then the gums will swell up because they are now warning you and crying for help, they will also start bleeding to tell you that you need to do something, they are now losing the battle.
Let me show you how bone loss looks on an X-ray. So that you see that this is actually more serious than you think it is.

You see in A and B, the bone is still okay but moving to C and D, the condition is bad.. teeth are holding on by faith now https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😭" title="Laut schreiendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Laut schreiendes Gesicht">
Okay sharp, what happens when the bones is lost?

Your teeth will actually start being mobile (loose) and they will start moving on their own...

Mind you all of this started with you not brushing.
Ohhh the other biggest contributing factor is the smoking of tobacco products, excessive smoking actually causes damage to the mouth and imbalances the oral flora
Let me stop worrying you with these many things and focus on the prevention part of it https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😊" title="Lächelndes Gesicht mit lächelnden Augen" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht mit lächelnden Augen">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😊" title="Lächelndes Gesicht mit lächelnden Augen" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht mit lächelnden Augen">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😊" title="Lächelndes Gesicht mit lächelnden Augen" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht mit lächelnden Augen">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✨" title="Funken" aria-label="Emoji: Funken">

1. BRUSH TWICE a day and preferably after meals.
2.Floss at least three times a week!!
3. SMOKING MUST FALL!! or at least reduce to make the process slower.
4. Go to your six months dental check up and get a wash.
5. Use mouthwash before sleeping to remove plaque producing germs(but I usually prefer warm water with salt)
6. Use a soft brush that will enter the spaces in between teeth!!!
7. DO NOT underestimate bleeding of gums!!
8. Have water regularly to flush out the food you have during the day.

Okay guys but the most important thing is to BRUSH!!! Please BRUSHHH
Oh and yes! I’m not an ambassador of any brand. Please buy brands of your choice.

And ohhh please take care of your mouths before they take care of you guys.

Blessed day ahead and cheers to more smileshttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✨" title="Funken" aria-label="Emoji: Funken">

The treatment is called root planing, it’s where we clean you under the gums(but we have to inject them first) and prescribe you anti inflammatory medication so that they stop swelling up

This does not make the process reversible but it at least stops it from continuing.

It really helps and actually it helps a lot with halitosis. So if you suspect you have this problem then go consult guys.
The downside of it is that you’ll actually lose teeth at a young age, you’ll look like a madala and you guys really don’t want to lose teeth... it’s not nice not to smile because of the low self esteem your mouth gives you
Please RT for awareness! I’m only doing this because I love people smiling. This is the little I can offer to add value to people’s lives https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz">
