One thing about Bork is that he revealed himself after the fact to be incredibly unsuited to be a Supreme Court justice.
Absolute religious zealot. He had no place being on the Court.

And to a great extent, if you& #39;re that committed to your faith, why should you? Liberalism doesn& #39;t make sense if you have a demanding personal faith of which you are 100% convinced.

I don& #39;t think a lot of people fully appreciate just how extreme the views are of the judicial Right. Bill Barr routinely spells out his views of the subject. He doesn& #39;t want a small "l" liberal pluralistic society where people are free to do what they want. He wants an intense
theocratic state imposing reactionary laws governing personal morality and effectively establishing a state religion. Of course, they wouldn& #39;t officially do that, but defacto that& #39;s what is on the table.

a form of civil war on cultural matters and they are absolutely committed to using the power of the state, especially the courts, to greatly constrain what are truly natural developments in human society just because they don& #39;t like those changes.
Barr in his own words spelled out that secular people and liberal Christians have no place in his vision of America.

If you read Bill Barr& #39;s speech and are either a liberal Christian or a secular person, do you really think this man has any interest in protecting your rights?
No. He& #39;s an authoritarian, bordering on totalitarian.

When conservatives sometimes wonder why it is that liberals view conservative positions on these issues as immoral, even evil, it& #39;s precisely because of this asymmetry.

Liberal views expand rights to allow everyone an equal position. Conservatives discriminate to enforce a
particular view of society that they feel is historically privileged. Barr says it right there in his own words. He& #39;s hardly a fringe figure in conservative legal circles, either.
Conservative legal thinkers view liberal restraints on discrimination as tyrannical, which is
Conservative legal thinkers view liberal restraints on discrimination as tyrannical, which is
just a baffling view. For example, who was harmed by Obergefell v. Hodges? Whose lives were made worse by that? No one. Yet it was supposedly an egregious example of "activist judicial tyranny." Oh? Because unrepresentative and fanatical legislatures were restrained in their
ability to arbitrarily discriminate?

or another strikes me and those like me as perverse and twisted. Most recently we saw it with the "bathroom bills" and other forms of anti-transgender discrimination.
Why is any of that sort of thing an appropriate role for the state? I& #39;ll be damned if you can tell me.
