DMK (the more extreme among the 2 Dravidian parties) has traditionally relied on X & M appeasement to win elections. This dates back to Periyar& #39;s endorsement of X & M religions, and his advice to H to convert to those religions.
AIADMK (the other major Dravidian party) has traditionally acted as a "soft Hindutva" party.
They benefit from counter-polarization of H votes in places where X & M have plurality. Despite Dravidianism, H consciousness still exists among Tamils, and they are quite religious.

Dravidianism of AIADMK is xenophobia against "outsiders", and polarization against X & M. (something like Shiv Sena).
However, Dravidianism of DMK is a more virulent strain that combines proper anti-H behaviour, xenophobia, X & M appeasement and complete adherence to Periyarism.
