In fantasy, there's a trope where things have evocative names like Death Gorge and the Forest of Shadows, but in real history we know that nine times out of ten these kinds of names are not at all accurate. Forest of Shadows is a mistranslation, should be Nice Shady Forest.
Death Gorge? Sure, it was "discovered" by John Death. Killer Moth? Well, it kills APHIDS, yeah. Dire Wolves? From the elvish "diere", means "pretty". Giant Purple Worm? Well, it's gigantic compared to the Lesser Purple Worm (5" long) and it's only purple in heat, it's more black
Black Pudding? Well, it comes from Black Hills (named because of the black magic that happened there once, turned out to be chaos magic tho). Yellow Mould? Only yellow when powdered. Grey Ooze? Doesn't ooze, isn't grey. Green slime? only green in water.
Umber hulk? Not umber at all. More of a tangerine. Actually a misspelling of Unencumbering Hulk. Ochre jelly? Called that because it was in the famous story book which was bound in ochre-coloured pages. Ancient Red Dragon? Named after the beer, Ancient Red Foam.
Unseen Servant? Originally the Oftseen Servant but name was changed for marketing reasons. Tenser's Floating Disc? Doesn't float at all, Tenser was floating when he invented it. Doppelgangers often come in sets of three to five.
Orc is a mispelling of "hawk", because the first ones humans met were big on falconry. The orcs call themselves "the white people" because they wear white paint (sometimes). Shambling Mound is actually "shamma-mon" which means "humans are stupid" in orkish.
The Dagger River is called that because someone lost a dagger there.
Blink dogs don't actually teleport, they travel back and forward in time, and they're closer related to raccoons than dogs.
Final note: Warhammer slips lots of gags like this in to it via German. The lofty sounding Misthaufen is German for dung heap. And Middenheim is not in the "middle" of things. And Middenheim is on the Fauchenslag which broadly translates to the Ba-Dum-Hiss.
