My two brothers turned in their resignations to the NYPD this week. They’ll join the force of a city in Texas next month, after receiving several offers. Mixed feelings all around, but its been an emotional time for them and for the whole clan the past few months.

My brothers love this City and the NYPD. They’ve worked in some challenging precincts where they felt like they were making a difference in the community. But times have changed and the outlook is very bleak. They have families and quality of life matters to them, too.

I can tell you they’re not leaving because NYC is “too dangerous now”. Doing police work can get you killed. Period. My brothers aren’t cowards. They know the risks. They just want their families to be taken care of… and maybe feel a little appreciated.
