Graetz and his wife Jeannie supported the boycott, and helped with the car pools of boycotters. For this, they and their preschool children faced threats and saw their home in Montgomery bombed twice. The boycott was the start of a life devoted to social activism. #alpolitics

"I know that I shall be criticized for my stand," Graetz said in 1956, near the start of the boycott. "I may even suffer violence. But I cannot minister to souls alone. My people also have bodies.” #alpolitics
