Theology thread coming up:
I’ve always been fascinated by the parable of Job.
There’s the obvious stuff like the leviathan and the behemoth, but this thread isn’t about my love of Cryptids or how God’s reaction to Lucifer showing up is basically “hey, where you been?”
The thing that has always drawn my attention is the end.
Chapter 42, starting in verse 7: And so it was, after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.”
This one verse rebukes so many false teachings that are still around today.
The idea that if you are faithful, you will reap the rewards (prosperity gospel)? Rebuked by God himself.
The idea that bad things are a punishment for sin? Rebuked by God himself.
My favorite: the Evangelical talking point of “we all deserve God’s wrath”? Job repeatedly insists that he has done nothing to deserve His wrath, and God STILL says that Job speaks truth.
I’ve always wanted to write a sermon about Job. But much like this thread, the thoughts and ideas that seem so clear in my head end up jumbled when I write them down.
Idk man I just really love Job okay end thread
