I've not yet seen the program and TBH wasn't really planning to this soon for I have a boatload of C and K dramas to get through...Based on posts I have read, the common ground everyone seems (even some of the haters) to have is that Xiao Zhan did a great job...
I really would not expect anything less, for he is a really good actor...Still it saddens me that I am not surprised the haters of Xiao Zhan seem to be trying to crucify him for even taking on the role/project...
Especially after that NY-Times review came out criticizing China for not accurately depicting that majority of front-line workers in China's battle with COVID19 have been women...
A fair critique, but how is this the fault of one actor, which is what some of the haters seem to be implying.

Maybe I'm reading some of the reactions wrong...I know all about the "incident"...I still do not get the absolute hatred some seem to have with Xiao Zhan.
Update:

I watched the program on YouTube and I can only guess the NY-Times article based much of it's critique on brief videos (1-2 minutes) and if you only go by that, it would look as if there weren't many women front-liners being portrayed...That is far from the truth.
All the actors did an amazing job portraying these heroes on front-line, including Xiao Zhan...Being a US citizen and having had to listen to the idiocy coming from Trump...First Trump knew nothing, then it was a hoax, then it's all China's fault, and so on and so on...
