🧵Things I learnt launching clothing:

1) SKUs: With bags you have 1 SKU / colour, but with clothes it's exponential. 4 pieces * 5 sizes * 3 colours = 60 SKUs, that's nearly all our other products combined, and we still got feedback that we need more sizes!
2) Care instructions: Nobody needs to machine wash a bag, it can just be wiped down, but with clothing you have
- temperature it can be washed at
- how it's washed
- how many washes will it last
- does it shrink
- does it pill
- how does it age

I respect every label writer
3) Fit: everyone's unique and every person has a different body type, but with bags it's one size fits all

The industry actually has standards like "missy straight" and "missy curvy"

Funny story, when we did our shoot we hired models as we always would, but forgot...
their heights and clothing sizes actually mattered because we only had 3 samples to shoot with!

4) Website: usually we can prepare the website in a few hours for a product launch, but for clothing we needed to prepare size charts with "POMs" (points of measure)...
I imagine it's going to be harder to convert online. To get the right fit customers would have to take the time to understand their measurements - we've even had some asking us if they should "size down" or "size up" if they're in between sizes
5) Finally something which is easier - shipping and packaging! A bag needs a huge box, but clothing can fit in an elegant, compostable bag

Will share more as we go, but learning by doing has been exciting and I'm proud of the team for pulling it off đź’«
