1916, Wilson named Brandeis in Jan. (confirmed in June), then Clark.
1932, Hoover named Cardozo, Feb..
1940, FDR named Murphy in Jan.
1988, Reagan named Kennedy in Nov. 1987, he was confirmed in Feb.

Brennan was recess appointed by Eisenhower in late September 1956 and then confirmed afterwards. And Fortas, already a sitting justice, was tapped for chief in June 1968 but filibustered. Of course Merrick Garland, nominated in March 2016 for a vacancy that occurred in February. But we all know what didn& #39;t happen there. My point: nothing this close to an election.
