Feminism is not a stand-alone movement, women are not JUST under-represented. We have to link our movement to broader socio-economic issues, we must talk about ethno-nationalist struggles of women & men, we must address the crisis of housing & issue of privatisation.
Especially a feminism of the a country such as Pakistan - a post colonial nation-state, a 3rd world country of the global south. Our feminism must not be lean-in feminism. Our feminism MUST be socialist, transformative and for ALL!
Our feminism must also not be apolitical & separate from the struggle for democracy, social justice and economic justice.
Budgets affect women, IMF conditions affect women, privatisations affects women, enforced disappearances affect women, foreign relations affect women
We have to unite with other struggles & movements in the country seeking for economic justice, for labour rights, for students rights, for the right to self determination. We must lead all these movements & be part of them.
What good is a law on domestic violence when there is no affordable housing for women to move to?
Living in a conservative religious society with controlling families - we have limited individual freedoms & rights to our bodies but we must continue to reflect & move forward.
We must be able to form linkages between the man we oppose in our own class/nation to the family to the state to the global capitalism & imperialism.
Our fight ag patriarchy differs from most countries who have had feminist movements. Create your own language, ideology & narrative
we must demand it all, we must fight for it all, we must not settle for the little, the limited, the possible - we must fight for the bread and for the roses!
