What happens when your FEELINGS are more important than the FACTS and research is irrelevant.
The Fairview Racecourse Incident
Falsehood 1: The 150 to 200 protestors were not all employees of Fairview Racecourse - a number of them were residents of the informal settlement.
Falsehood 2: The horse that tragically died was not killed with a panga - this has been confirmed by an employee at Fairview Racecourse and Phumelelo Gaming.
On the euthanizing of horses - I am not able to find any information to confirm this.
Falsehood 3: There weren't any protestors killing horses with a pangas.
Falsehood 4: Colonel Naidu had reported on Thursday that a male age 49 was arrested on Thursday for public violence and malicious damage to property.
It is easy to ignore misinformation, however, in this case the under 5 minute video filled with misinformation was watched by more than 44000 people. No one condones what happened to the horses. This being said, how does this false narrative help build South Africa?
As active citizens we need to start holding each other accountable and when you see false claims such as these👇, don't be afraid to question them. If the person does not have any sinister agenda, they would most likely correct the facts and delete the falsehood.
Alternatively, the person may block you 🤣but most rational people who are acting in good faith won't do that.
