Almost one month ca. 50 babies born from surrogate mothers were held in a hotel-room in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. Their new parents could not pick them up due to the closed borders during Corona-Lockdown.

2) 46 (according to various sources up to 76) babies stayed nearly a month in ONE room at the Hotel Venice.
⏬Video was published by the BioTexCom Center for Human Reproduction for surrogate parents from the USA, Italy, Spain, UK, China, France, Germany...
3) Official opinion
The Ukrainian ombudsman (Commissioner for Human Rights) L. Denisova: "It is necessary to legislatively regulate the issue of surrogate motherhood, since Ukraine CANNOT control how the rights of Ukrainian citizens, who leave for other countries, are respected"
4) “We need to investigate how many such children are born in a year. We see that these are not only those 50 children who stay in Venice Hotel, but there are many more of them,” she said.
5) BioTexCom Medical Center was founded 2013 in the capital of Ukraine by a German citizen Mr. Albert #Totchilovsky.
@BioTexCom_Kyiv is the largest surrogacy company in Ukraine, which operates a birthing clinic in Kiev and has agencies in many countries.
6) At BioTextCom, parents who would like to have children can book various packages - the baby then costs between 50,000 and 70,000 euros.
7) How much does an average surrogate mother in Ukraine receive?
➡️An average surrogate mother in Ukraine earns between 8,000 and 20,000€ for a pregnancy
➡️The surrogacy companies receive between 40,000 and 70,000 € for a child

12) Albert Totchilovsky, the German citizen, owner of BioTexCom.
He has already been investigated for #HumanTrafficking and tax evasion. At times he was also under house arrest.
13) In 2011, according to Deutsche Welle, an Italian couple had a deal with Ukrainian surrogate mother to give birth to a baby, which was artificially fertilized in a BioTexCom clinic. But in Italy the couple was not recognised as parents.
14) A DNA test requested by the authorities didn´t confirm that the man was the child's genetic father. Eventually their baby was adopted by another family in Italy.
16) Bridget
2019 the Europe correspondent of ABC News Samantha Hawley found a baby born via a #BioTexCom surrogate in Ukraine and then abandoned by the American parents.
Bridget was carried by a surrogate mother from the war-torn area of Donetsk. Her twin died at birth.
17) Matthew Scott Etnyre, 39, and Irmgard Pagan, 61, are the Americans listed as Bridget's parents on documents.

"We don't like this child, we wanted you to have a Hollywood smile after birth'", was the Americans' decision to leave Bridget in Ukraine.
18)
Bridget was born prematurely at 25 weeks and weighed just over 800 grams. She is now 4 years old and has a range of disabilities.
As Bridget was almost two years old, the Americans sent a second letter giving their consent for her adoption.
19) That document, which was signed in the presence of the Consul General of the US Embassy, was not recognised under Ukrainian law.
20) This meant Bridget was essentially stateless as she wasn't considered a Ukrainian citizen and no application had been made for her to become an American citizen.

23) Legal issues
The US, Ukraine Russia and Georgia have the most liberal laws in the world, allowing commercial surrogacy, including foreigners and some of them homosexual couples
Surrogacy is legal in Iran and monetary remuneration is practiced and allowed by relig. authorities
24) Thailand in 2015 and Cambodia in 2016 banned commercial surrogacy. Nepal, Mexico, and India have also recently banned foreign commercial surrogacy.

As a result, Ukraine is quickly becoming the "hot" new surrogacy destination.
25) Where is Surrogacy illegal?

Surrogacy is prohibited by law in Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Bulgaria some American states, Italy, Switzerland and Iceland.
26) Fertility tourism
Some countries, such as the USA, Canada, Greece, Ukraine, Georgia and Russia, are popular surrogacy destinations for foreign intended parents. Eligibility, processes and costs differ from country to country.
27) Fertility tourism for surrogacy is driven by legal restrictions in the home country or the incentive of lower prices abroad.

Previously popular destinations, India, Nepal, Thailand, and Mexico have all recently implemented bans on commercial surrogacy for non-residents.
28) Human rights and health
Surrogacy is criticised from a human rights perspective and is considered a form of #humanTrafficking (both of children and women). It turns children into a kind of product, and equates women with living incubators (exploitation of the bodies of women)
29) Women who have been in the role of a surrogate mother also talk about the harm to their mental and physical well-being, which was caused to them by this practice.
Agencies that are looking for women for their clients often do not cover all the consequences, and
30) and most women take such a step from lack of money, education, pressure from loved ones, due to psychological trauma associated with violence.
31)
Born children may not be claimed by customers, especially if they were born prematurely or have any health problems (the reproductive technologies used for surrogacy significant increases this risk).
