i'm pretty sure the scene in bataille's the story of the eye where the car and the bicycle crash in sexual frenzy is the origin of jg ballard's novel... just saying

ballard says he's never read bataille, is this true though?

he also says in another interview he wasn't so influenced by surrealist writing as by the paintings, he was in awe of the visuals which had a visceral effect on him

what makes me question this though, he notes reading books which are quite distant from his writing, but at the same time denies writing writing which is far closer to his own, such as bataille

it does seem a bit like freud's denial of reading nietzsche... just saying
