Kumbi Saleh, the capital of Ancient Ghana, is said to have flourished from 300 to 1240 AD. Located in modern day Mauritania. Kumbi Saleh had storey buildings with underground rooms, staircases and connecting halls. Some had nine rooms.
One section of the city alone is estimated to have housed 30,000 people, according to archaeological excavations it is that also revealed to have houses almost habitable today.
Kumbi Saleh was one of the Richest and fastest growing city in the world with trading Gold and Salt with legal currency of Gold Dinar.
