When I expressed my desire to leave academia, my mentor (clearly annoyed) told me that a 9-5 industrial job will feel stagnant after a while with no professional growth.

Is it wrong to "not" be ambitious? What if I want to come back home, at peace, to a family after a 9-5 job?
I am so thankful to everyone for their insight. It did shatter a lot of biases that I had in mind, concerning both academia and industry. As I decide on what is best for me, two things I will stick to: 1) put my mental health first and 2) not compromise on my love for science.
