Unpopular opinion incoming - I actually quite like these low traffic schemes. Being able to walk down a street uninterrupted, no cars racing by, listening to the birds tweeting is bliss. I get that their execution in places(eg Wandsworth) has been poor but the concept is great!
I get that they shift traffic from side roads to main roads, but in my mind that's a good thing - main roads are designed for larger traffic flows - side roads aren't. It makes residential streets quieter & safer, making room for people instead of cars racing by. Rat runs suck!
Also issue of buses being diverted away from some streets as a result of this, most cases (case by case) I believe bus routes should be planned to run along main rds to a fast & direct routing. This makes a service more accessible to more people. Also more attractive to car users
If buses are to be a truly attractive alternative to driving they have to offer a competitive journey time. People want to go from A to B as quickly, safely & smoothly as possible. Good infrastructure(bus lanes, jump-start lights) helps here in addition to smart network planning
