i really hope people on stan twt learn to call out actual problematic behavior by nasty people instead of bullying people who are just trying to learn? bec in that case we should all be cancelled bec none of us are 100% politically correct. unlearning +
discriminatory structures that are so normalized in our culture is a lifetime of work. what is considered acceptable behavior today may very well be proven problematic tomorrow. bec as a generation we're constantly trying to improve political discourse +
being politically aware is not stagnant. it evolves, so like allow people the chance to evolve too. really it doesn't take much to say "hey i think you're wrong. apologize and do better". cancel people by all means, but exercise some nuance and maturity while you're at it +
I've said this before but stan twt just knows the vocabulary of political awareness, not the painful history that is attached to these terms. stop throwing around words with real consequences just to get a kick out of "cancelling" someone +
unless a person is like a real asshole who refuse to recognize their privilege or are predatory or something.
because honestly, we're all privileged in some ways or the other and have to constantly rectify behavior that feeds that privilege. we're part of the very social constructs we want to dismantle. society has internalized things like patriarchy and discrimination within us+
unlearning them is never a one-day process and it never stops. so before u bully someone and drive them off an app, take a long look at yourself and see if you're 100% without any normalized traits that society has brought us up with.
i know it may seem confusing. we don't want to accidentally enable bad behavior while seeing potential for improvement. but that is exactly why we have to be more nuanced and insightful in our approach to these things.
also, bullying someone on stan twt is not the activism you think it is. there are a million ways to exercise political consciousness. this ain't it.
