A little bit more on Diogo Jota...

After two seasons with Paços Ferreira in the Portuguese top flight, Jota was snapped up by Atlético Madrid.

He was immediately loaned to Porto, he played 37 times and scored 9 goals in all competitions.

A good return for a 19/20 year old.
Nuno Espirito Santos was Porto manager that season, and when he went to Wolves the season after, Jota followed.

If it wasn't for Wolves' links with agent Jorge Mendes, there's no way they could have signed a player like Jota (see also Ruben Neves) whilst in the Championship.
The initial deal was a loan with an option to buy. Jota scored 17 goals in 44 games in the Championship as Wolves were promoted to the Premier League as Champions.

The deal was made permanent for around £12m in 2018 which was double was Atlético paid for him two years previous.
In his two years in the Premier League, Jota has shown he's got the ability to be a top player. He's been slightly inconsistent but his goal return has been solid. He's got a Premier League hat-trick to his name and last season he scored 9 goals in the Europa League in 14 apps.
This included back to back Europa League hat-tricks against Besiktas and Espanyol.

The hat-trick against Besiktas took him 11 minutes and he only came on in the 56th minute.
Since 2019 he's been involved with the senior Portuguese national team. He made his debut last November and has been part of each squad since.

He scored his first goal for Portugal this month when they beat Croatia 4-1.
It's been widely reported that Ljinders was key to this signing. He was youth coach at Porto for 8 years before joining us in 2014.

He used his extensive contacts in Portugal to find out about the players character and coaching ability.

This is key.
The reds are getting a very good player. But Klopp and the coaching staff think they can take him to the next level.

This is what we do.

Everyone said we overpaid for Mané. Or Salah was a Chelsea reject. The list goes on.

Jota might very well be the next one.
