In 2019, we re-elected into power the most incompetent, egregious, hubris ridden bunch of people in the history of Republic of India. The previous 5 years had been spent in tinkering with every institution that could ensure a level playing field, packing them with yes men at
1/n
the key positions. DeMO and a caricature of GST were the experiments to test whether they would get away with just about anything unscathed.

And State Assembly results showed them they could. A carrot and stick policy ensured that they cornered untold wealth into their war 2/n
chest, starving the opposition of funds to fight a fair battle. With these funds and the might of the State Machinery backing them up, they were certain that even putting a Terror accused as a candidate, they would not only ensure her victory, but rub the collective nose of 3/n
the civilised citizens into mud by doing so. Pulwama/Balakot was the final ace up their sleeve, as the ultimate failsafe.

The watchdogs, viz ECI and SC had been managed. The former was spineless in standing up to BJP’s malpractices and toothless in penalising the most
4/n
blatant ones when forced to take action. The SC simply sat on political hot potato cases like Electoral Bonds, giving the party a free hand to go into debt of a handful of cronies, with promises of untold riches coming their way when re-elected. Sealed covers, acceptance of
5/n
bare-faced lies at face value, doubting the bona fide of litigants ensured that embarrassing cases were dismissed on the flimsiest excuses, without ever questioning the government on its intent or veracity of statements. Media had been bought quite early in the first term
6/n
itself. Now it was put to work 24/7 to show Modi as the savior, the only man worth the PM’s chair. “If not Modi, who?” became an echo chamber. And India voted. 60% of the voters did NOT vote for BJP, but the way our system works, BJP won a thumping majority.
NDA-2 knew
7/n
they had fixed everyone and everything. So now we were presented with India 2.0. With brute majority in LS and riding roughshod over dissenting voices in RS, a disastrous Kashmir initiative was rammed down the throats of the nation. A Muslim dominated state had to be shown
8/n
who was the boss and put into its place. That Kashmiri people would lose whatever trust they had in the Central Govt was of no consequence. That this would push ordinary people to rebel and become militant was of no consequence. Modi, the Rockstar had demonstrated his
9/n
popularity among Indian diaspora internationally, hence International community either simply ignored what was being done to India’s own citizens, or made token noises without any concrete steps.
The govt was so confident that they could get away with ANYTHING that a
10/n
blatantly partisan CAB was introduced. As expected, civil society erupted in protest. Unmindful, the govt rammed it through the parliament and CAA became the law. What MoSha had not anticipated was the ferocity or the spread of the protests. They tried to downplay and
11/n
ignore the country-wide protests, even trying pro-CAA rallies. But the mood was clear – they were losing the war of perception. The only way to counter it all was to unleash violence, unabashedly aided and abetted by state machinery and police, with parrot media labelling
12/n
dissent as treason. The police swung into action, picking up every dissenter and charging them under UAPA. Lower courts routinely denied bail to VICTIMS of violence, as PERPETRATORS roamed free, swaggering at being untouchable.
13/n
Things still might have spiralled out of control, because the economy was in shambles, joblessness was at a record high and they had lost 3 state assembly elections. For all the anti-China rhetoric, Modi must be thanking that country for COVID. It has given him the perfect
14/n
alibi to blame every economic disaster. He can now spin homilies and feed peacocks, because a) people cannot assemble to hold protest rallies and b) Media can blame everything to this Act of God.
And for good measure, a film start’s suicide has come as a god-sent.
15/n
Weep, my India, weep. But you have no one else to blame but yourself.

Wake up India, wake up. Because the coming generations will curse you for doing nothing while this beautiful country became the private property of a handful.
