I was recently asked to be an editorial consultant for an upccoming TV show about kids & racism. I have a book coming on this topic on 15 Oct. I was v excited because it is something I’m personally & professionally very passionate about and I’d also like to do more radio/TV. Fee:
They didn’t offer a fee at first and when asked they put forward £250. This might seem spoiled but this is not reasonable compensation in any way. I write as a matter of transparency because no one ever knows how much people get paid and offered. Now I don’t know what others 2/
have got paid or what the standard rate is but that sounds to me very low for a professional consultancy, for someone’s expertise on a programme such as this. Also they had a v tight deadline with 2-3 days notice. I’m sure the prog will be good despite this and 3/
I’ll be watching with interest. But why not pay people properly for their time? Why not make the fee transparent? Why not have more poc as consultants on media? Why not make sure that people’s expertise and experience is valued? That is all. 4/
