We knew there would be a second wave, and that the history of pandemics tells us it can hit us harder than the first. We knew this.
As universities, with responsibilities for local community safety as well as student/staff safety, we had a hard choice to make:
Accelerate and exacerbate the coming and severity of that second wave, or do everything we can to avoid and mitigate it.
We have chosen the first path. We have encourage the mass migration of students, shortly after schools opened and re-seeded the virus across communities.
Universities are encouraging or obliging face to face sessions in coming weeks, requiring people to commute from areas of greater or lesser infection, guaranteeing campus outbreaks.
