Let's talk the infamous Dulce de Leche cocktail that Sky Masterson slyly orders for Sarah in #GuysAndDolls @tcm. Dulce de leche is a well-known treat of reduced milk and sugar but apparently, there was no 🍸called that in 1950's Cuba... #TCMParty 1/6
For the 2009 B'way revival, the WSJ did some serious digging and found nothing by that name in any of the cocktail books of the period. They did however find something called the Doncellita, 2 oz Creme de Cacao with a creme float and a cherry on top... 2/6
Spanish for "Young Maid" and slang for "nipple" (bc of the cherry I guess), it's racy enough for Sky but it doesn't quite fit the bill since there's nothing dulce de leche about it AND it doesn't contain the key ingredient, rum... 3/6
Eventually, Bacardi figured out this was a great marketing opportunity and created this boozy confection based on the Doncelitta:

DULCE DE LECHE

1 oz Bacardi rum
½ oz chocolate liqueur
½ oz condensed milk

Shake w/ ice, strain and pour up. Sprinkle cinnamon. 4/6
If however you are cringing at this (it *is* sweet), try this instead:

DULCE DE LECHE No. 2

1½ oz aged rum
1 oz Vanilla Liqueur (the good stuff like Giffards)
½ oz cream
2 ds smoked cinnamon bitters
3 drops 20% saline solution

Shake w/ ice, strain and pour up. 5/6
Here's the kicker. The Doncellita is now (per the WSJ) more popularly known as a children's drink - chocolate milk with whipped cream and cherry on top... (orig. article: https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB123638353943358069) FIN.
