i’ve been sending out parcels & postcards to friends and thinking about how much more tangible that love & care is. there’s not more love in them than a good morning/night text or a photo with “this made me think of you” but it’s something you can hold knowing they held it too
i’ve been thinking about the losers in drastically different time zones in an au where they weren’t separated by years & so can stand to be separated by continents, sending each other care packages, little things they’ve made & collected & curated with love
richie sticks the postcards up with the back on display, even knowing the images were chosen with care, because seeing their handwriting reminds him of being in school & passing notes back & forth
mike goes on long walks & pockets cool rocks & leaves & flowers to press & stick between the pages of long form letters or on bookmarks he makes out of pages of $1 store books
ben sketches all the cute houses, interesting buildings, weird winding maps of the cities he’s in, so the others can visualise where he is the same way he does, filtered through his gaze
eddie’s normal caretaking is immediate—weather appropriate clothing suggestions & “drink some water please”. letters give him the space to step back & talk about the big picture, tell his friends about a dog he met or a conversation he had that would usually fall by the wayside
bev finds cool stickers & pins & pamphlets that tell the story of her city & her state of mind, she sends them in envelopes with lists of movies she’s been watching & music she’s been listening to, the only other message “BIG LOVE, BEV XOXO” in block letters
bill writes them all stories, sends quirky secondhand books he’s found alongside his own fiction. his stories always have better endings when he’s telling the to his friends anyway
stan has six boxes under his bed, each piled high with love from his friends. new letters & stories & stickers go on the fridge until the next replaces them, then they go in their designated box for him to open on grey days, when he can sit comfortably with distant friends.
