1 When I see ant-mask-wearers wielding signs which say, "My body, my choice" I think, "You're missing the point. Masks are about protecting other people; about us caring for each other." But then there are those who argue that those of us who wear masks are acting like sheep 1/7
2 ...that we're unquestioningly following government 'orders' when coronavirus is a hoax. Hoax? But what about the people I know personally who've been seriously ill? What about the thousands of people who work in hospitals? The news crews, the scientists...? 2/7
3 ...Are they all in on this hoax with the exception of a few 'brave doctors who are telling it how it really is?' That would require a level of co-ordination across the world which is hard to imagine when we see the incompetence of individual governments... 3/7
4 ...And where are the anti-mask-wearers getting this unfiltered truth from? What makes them so sure that they're right? No one LIKES wearing a mask. It's uncomfortable, I sweat a lot and my glasses slide off my face but, if it reduces the spreading of infection slightly... 4/7
5 ...it's GOT to be worth it. Espousing conspiracies theories is easy. You can answer any rebuttal with, "That's what they want you to think!" of "They have a hidden agenda" & "Of course I can't prove it. They're covering it up!" They can dismiss all the scientific evidence.. 5/7
6 ...and feel smug that they know something you don't know. It would be laughable if thousands hadn't died. The problem is, dismissing them as misguided isn't enough if their action - or lack of it - increases the risk of illness and death of others... 6/7
7 ...It's not about the Dunkirk spirit or not being a spineless lily-livered coward or kicking COVID-19 into touch or any of these things. It's not about 'freedom vs, tyranny'. It's about working together to defeat a virus which is destroying lives. 7/7
