Seeing as it's soon independence day and we're all learning new languages, here's a thread of useful Hausa phrases.
Yar/Dan iska - child of beauty
Wawa/wawiya - intellectual
Note that adding an 'n' at the end of the word + banza further conveys the meaning. Eg. Wawan banza or wawiyar banza
Shakatafi - sunshine
Often used to describe a blessed day.
Za ki ci uwaki/ubanki - How has your day been
Ƙaton kai kamar bokitin wanka - You're looking especially beautiful today.
My personal favourite đŸ„°
Shegen yaro - Handsome boy
Baki kaman na jaki - Gorgeous, luscious lips. It's quite formal, so use it on elders.
Gashi kaman tsinsiya - Your hair is healthy like Rapunzel's
Tsinsiya is the Hausa name for Rapunzel btw
Mahaukaci me girman kai - Young girl with beautiful figure
Make sure you ask if you have trouble with pronunciations. Your words of endearment might be mistaken for insults if you don not pronounce them to the full capacity.
Ƙaton kobo - someone who carries themselves well
