For those who are unfamiliar with the DSA Intl Committee, a little bit of the long history of this body of DSA since we just launched our social media
🧵
The IC has been around for at least two decades in DSA (in fact, so long no one is exactly sure when it was first formed). Like DSA itself, it has gone through swings between rejuvenation, activity, and lulls
After the explosive growth of DSA in 2016, it became clear at some point that like the rest of the organization, the IC was having some growing pains -- it needed to be updated to the radically different needs of our organization
In 2018, the NPC began a process to figure out how to renew the IC. There was also a growing interest in the IC from membership and several international resolutions were passed at the 2019 convention including #4 "Building the DSA Intl Committee".
In 2020, a reform of the IC was approved by NPC. 2 new executive bodies were created: an International Secretariat and a Steering Committee. Following a competitive application process, ten DSA members were appointed to each of these two bodies by the NPC.
We also have topical/regional subcommittees: Americas, Antiwar, Asia+Oceania, Economics+Trade, Ecosocialism, Europe, Labor, Middle East+Africa, Migration+Refugees who work on poli ed programming and intl solidarity work
Some of the work we have been up to: In 2019, we brought representatives of left parties, trade unions, and movements from Brazil, Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, Japan, Peru, Venezuela, Philippines, Quebec, and Germany to the DSA convention . Full report here: http://shorturl.at/flnoq
We worked on campaigns to end the war on Yemen http://shorturl.at/cpIRT  and oppose U.S. threats against Venezuela http://shorturl.at/gquNT
We hosted DSA-wide political education events on labor struggles in Sudan and Algeria; the explosion at the port in Beirut; and the Israeli elections ( http://shorturl.at/hryI8 )
We released statements on state oppression against the Jordanian Teachers' Union; a Global Democratic Socialist Response to Covid; Action Against a U.S. War on Iran & an endorsement of Corbyn's Labour Party; and many more http://shorturl.at/axzIT
We've also worked to build and deepen our diplomatic ties with like-minded left organizations from around the world -- most recently we held a roundtable meeting with members of Costa Rica's Frente Amplio
