Many claim trans women don’t understand the fight for reproductive freedom because we’ve always had it, but trans women have NEVER had reproductive liberty in this country and still don’t. Cis feminism as a movement has never developed a way of grasping or integrating this truth.

It’s impossible to boil what I’m talking about down to a tweet, but:

1) des facto sterilization is made a cost of health care
2) hard to safely have kids when your population is stigmatized as all pedophiles
3) trans women tend to be sex workers and sex worker moms aren’t free

This isn’t even touching discrimination in adoption or custody. I’ve known too many trans women that lovingly raised a dear child only to be separated from the child by a cis parent under accusation of being a pervert or an unfit parent.

If you don’t see how reproductive justice means a host of vital struggles for trans women, struggles which are highly neglected, then you don’t understand the needs of trans women as a population.
