Of course at school I met friends who grew up here but my parents didn’t like me hanging out with them :(
Now, when I was a bit older you were encouraged to do a gap year, so I spent a few months traveling as an archaeologist’s assistant
But I wasn’t sure about archaeology. I wanted to learn about urban planning (that’s what we called it back then when I was growing up. You kids probably have some sort of numtot meme for it now!)
Anyway. A lot of my childhood wasn’t great. There was a pretty shitty time growing up on an army base and I have to tell you things didn’t look good for a while.
Come to think of it, there were a lot of traumatic moments of my life growing up on army bases. My parents were probably negligent. Once is excusable but this must have happened five, maybe nearly ten time...
As I got older and more mature though, I’d learn to create quiet safe spaces for myself and form deep bonds with people, even strangers. I went on a life-changing pilgrimage.
I’d retain my interest for archaeology, but something about the profession didn’t sit right with me anymore, and despite the field being exciting, it just started feeling... violent.
I’ll also never forget my late father in law seeing where I lived in the Midwest, and showing him how I’d learned to hunt. He thought I was terrible at it!
Oh gosh I nearly forgot to tell you about the time I lived in this horrible rainy city working with a detective-
Anyway, I’ve grown up in a lot of places. Many more than I’ve shared here! I’ve had an amazing life and seen things I could only have dreamed of. I’m very lucky.
I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
