I saw the light: a thread.

In college, I came to be a staunch Republican. I believed in fiscal responsibility, low corporate tax rates, and deregulation. While I never aligned socially with conservatism as I was always socially liberal, I sided with “the right.” (1/11)
I wrestled with my ideologies for a while, but it wasn’t until recently that my viewpoints changed. You can give the wealthy tax cuts and reverse regulations all you want — we still have massive problems in this country. Inaction on climate change, unfair tax treatment.. (2/11)
..suppression of civil rights, wealth inequality, insufficient disability funding. The list goes on and on. These problems don’t just go away on their own by way of the free market. In fact, unregulated markets often exacerbate these issues. We need to help each other. (3/11)
Ideas can look great in theory yet fail in practice. That’s how many right-wing concepts result in my view. Trickle-down economics prioritizes the wealthy man over the working man. Not everybody gets dealt the same card in life. We have a societal duty to help each other. (4/11)
We have a war on the poor, war on drugs, war on terror. The only thing there isn’t a war on? Working hard each day to solely enrich corporate interests. That’s a problem.

Look at our prison system. We have human beings serving absurd sentences for marijuana.. (5/11)
..possession. Look at our financial system. The too-big-to-fail banks get bailed out and the people pay for it.

No one should be denied healthcare.

We need to address mental health.

Our education system is inadequate.

The analysis could keep going and going. (6/11)
We have a duty to invest in and take care of our people. We must seek economic opportunity while still placing people over profit. Attaining compassion and economic growth are not mutually exclusive items.

We have to leave a better planet for future generations. (7/11)
I researched and walked away from the GOP. Does that mean I’m a fervent Biden supporter? No. He comes with faults and inconsistencies like everyone, but it may be a step toward future party improvement. Then, we have to get the DNC to really start listening to the people. (8/11)
There are innovative and exciting candidates to rally behind with liberal and socially democratic ideas. We have to make noise and show the DNC that we are sick of settling for establishment players. Many of us will pull Biden now, but we need to change going forward. (9/11)
Creating change is not easy. Change does not happen overnight. Let’s improve one step at a time. At the end of the day, we are all in this together.

I envision a world of growth and compassion that we are proud to hand over to the next generation. (10/11)
I may lose friends over this and gain others. You can call me a liberal, a leftist, etc. Call me whatever you will. If anything, I hope to end up being called a good person who followed my principles and advocated for positive change.

It’s time to do better. I’m all in. (11/11)
