My research for an article on #WhiteHatJr led me to find some interesting facts on how they recruit teachers.

(A thread)
Before we start, note that WhiteHatJr (WHJ) proudly mentions that only "teachers above 99.9th percentile get selected" but what are the tests about?
With other things WHJ tests in their interviews, teachers are judged by two things that stand out:

1) how well the teacher "created excitement/hook by discussing game and webpage editing"

2) how well they expressed the "need to create urgency and encourage the parent to enroll"
Another important thing is:

Even if you're a BCom or BA with NO coding experience you can give the interview.

You just need to have good communication skills and you just need to learn a 50-page PDF they'll give you.
This means your child might be studying from people who don't know how to code themselves.
Someone who gave their interviews confirmed that you just need to explain what's in the PDF and there's negative marking if you explain something that's NOT in the PDF. (not explicitly mentioned obviously)
In WHJ's classes:

- their teachers basically give step by step instructions to the child on how to make a specific program.
- they don't make the child learn by himself (which would've been a 1000 times better way to learn)
- This spoon-feeding reduces their ability to self learn. Which undoubtedly is a more essential skill than coding itself.

- IMO they're programming children. They're teaching them how to do something without teaching them to how to learn it themselves.
WHJ used to advertise that Elon Musk and Bill Gates started coding in childhood.

But they had learnt coding themselves.
There's a lot more to talk about how WHJ ruins most children's life by persuading them to learn to code when they can do something else 1000 times better.

But let's keep that for another thread!
Thanks. 🔁
