I'm seeing a lot of "oh, but won't Republicans pack the court?"

This is the wrong question. The Republicans ALREADY changed the number of Supreme Court justices when they refused to seat Merrick Garland. This has ALREADY happened.
The Democrats need to play by the SAME rules as Republicans. That's why they should put additional justices on the Court.

Now, if you want to *reform* the court, I have thoughts on that too...
I think a 19-Justice court would allow SCOTUS to act more like the lower circuit courts, and that would be a good thing. So that would involve adding TEN spots.

Can the GOP do *that*? Sure. Let's have a 29 person SCOTUS, that's the same size as the 9th Circuit, more or less.
Would the Dems come back and add 10 and make it a 39 Justice Court? WHY NOT? A 40 member SCOTUS doesn't bother me. In fact, the MORE justices there are the LESS important any individual justice is... WHICH IS GOOD. There wouldn't be a constitutional crisis ever time one dies.
"Oh, but where does it end"? It ENDS when both parties agree that the Court should be made up of broadly agreeable jurists who AREN'T there to fight our culture wars for us. If we have to go to 100 Justices to get there, THAT WOULD ALSO BE FINE.
And 100 Justices are more legitimate then "ONLY JUSTICES MCCONNELL LIKES" which is what the Supreme Court is now.
