A little less than two miles away, behind the line of trees, is the mighty Mississippi. On 24 Nov 1803 L&C had a campsite in that vicinity, coming north from the Ohio River.

Never been to Belmont battlefield in Missouri before. This is it. 2 parking spaces, 3 signs, 2 of them about the Trail of Tears. Among the shabbiest of #ACW battlefields. This one disappeared under cropland long ago. – bei Columbus Belmont State Park
