#wwfc | Diogo Jota - A thread - 1/9

On his day, he wins football matches by himself and it’s absolutely beautiful to watch.

Tough, tenacious and an uncanny ability to run through people yet still come out with the ball, mainly because he’s so determined.

Particularly in the Championship season and still to a degree in the Premier League, he was targeted for some ‘special treatment’.

Yet teams didn’t realise, kicking him only made him even more determined and it helped get the best out of him.

Jota at his peak for #wwfc was in a 352 when partnered with Raúl, where at times he was almost unplayable.

However, although he was ok in a forward three, he was never quite as consistent the same way he was when deployed in a pair.

Peak Jota was in the FA Cup semifinal v Man Utd when he made Luke Shaw look like a drunk ballerina before he thundered home to send #wwfc to Wembley.

I’d imagine this will be the moment he’s remember for at Molineux, a special night indeed.

Despite two Europa League hat-tricks in 19/20, Jota struggled for consistency in the League.

Like many after the return from lockdown, he didn’t seem himself, but he definitely wasn’t alone as many appeared to be out of steam.

When you go out of favour or Nuno loses his trust in you, it doesn’t usually end well (Douglas/Doherty).

The writing may have been on the wall for Jota back in August when he failed to start either of #wwfc’s final two Europa league games.

Peak Jota was often #wwfc’s best forward, but peak Jota isn’t something we’d seen consistently for quite a while.

So at this point, he’d slipped down to fourth choice when it came to narrow forward options at Nuno’s disposal.

He’d been a huge part of the rise of #wwfc in the last three years & deserves our respect.

However, progress doesn’t care for sentiment & although it may sting for some, the progress of the club is more important than loyalty to any player.

It’s a huge move for a talented footballer & I certainly don’t begrudge him this opportunity.

I also feel it’s a good deal for #wwfc, who have cashed whilst his stock is reasonably high.

Thank-you, Diogo.
