Disclaimer: due to school, I had a month break between watching the first 34 episodes and the last 2, so my memory way not serve me correctly...
Another disclaimer: If you don't like guns, this is NOT the drama for you.
Before I review, here's some selfless promo hehe. A thread I made of Luhan looking fine af in Crossfire :) https://twitter.com/kaiyatoast/status/1297751644168261633?s=20
Ok, let's begin! I just have to say that I absolutely loved this drama. Every bit of it was amazing, and I could go on forever talking about why I love it, but I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet.
Firstly, the storyline was really interesting and quite original, I personally enjoy the genre of e-sports so that was probably what convinced me to watch it (besides Luhan ofc hehe) but the added bits of action, sci-fi, and mystery were all really enjoyable.
I really liked how all the characters had a bit of their own side stories as well, and the touch of romance was also nicely added in (it wasn't too cringey which is honestly quite hard to find in Asian dramas nowadays)
I also thought the way the two separate timelines (Luhan's character 肖枫 Xiaofeng lives in 2008 while Leo Wu's character 小北 Xiaobei lives in 2019) were brought together towards the end of the drama was really nicely done.
Ok but the ending. OMG. Amazing. It was definitely quite bittersweet (I don't want to give any spoilers), but it was presented in a nostalgic way and also taught many life lessons. I have honestly written so many inspiring quotes down from this drama you don't even know 😅
Talking about inspiration, this drama really opened my eyes to many things; morals, dreams, attitudes towards life. The list is endless, but the line that resonated the most with me is the line "先做人,后做事。" Its literal translation is "First be a person, then do things."
Its real meaning is that being a person is the beginning of doing things, and a person who cannot be human cannot be successful. I believe this is a saying that we can all live by 🙏
I definitely could get carried away with this, so just one more thing that really struck a cord with me:
This drama taught me that life is not all about winning. Losing is ok as long as you have fought courageously and worked hard. Fight hard, give your all, but lose gracefully.
Luhan's acting has really improved, and I was very impressed by his performance in Crossfire. Leo Wu is also an incredible actor as well, as are all the other actors, but there are too many for me to name all, I'd be here forever...
Ooh wait yes, how could I forget, I was super impressed by the CGI! Much of the gameplay was live-action which was really cool!! Despite the heavy use of guns/weapons, there is not much gore at all, which is good.
Also, besides the violence from the gameplay, the drama is pretty much all family-friendly :)
I think that's all I want to say. If you haven't watched Crossfire already, you can watch it here with English subtitles 👇Although it may seem long bc it is 36 episodes, each episode is only 45-50mins so it is quite manageable. https://koreandrama.es/cross-fire-2020
