Kuyper, on the "mortal combat" of Christianity vs Modernism:

"In this struggle Apologetics have advanced us not one single step. Apologists have invariably begun by abandoning the assailed breastwork, in order to entrench themselves cowardly in a ravelin behind it." ...
We have often seen those who claim to apologize for Christianity (formerly in the classical sense; now often in the modern one too) concede the framing of debate, and the standards of truth and justice, to radically secular opponents. ...
While "playing by the rules” earns Christian influencers establishment acceptance—which they in turn use to advance their status within Christian institutions—these apologies win us nothing. ...
All such apologies do is reinforce rules that ensure we lose the broader struggle, and legitimize those rules in the eyes of unwary Christians.

Kuyper recognized this a century ago, yet Christians (especially in some elite-aspiring circles) repeat this mistake time and again. …
Ordinary Christians are finally questioning the legitimacy of a leadership class, dominant in Christian institutions, whose claimed authority was built on secular approval—and whose defining trait is their failure to directly challenge a worldview antithetical to ours. …
This reflects broader trends. People in all walks of life are questioning established gatekeepers and credentialers.

People are recognizing the insidious cost of leaders who claim to represent us—but who were elevated by gatekeepers with sharply conflicting values and interests.
