2nd Wave NHS Workforce Morale - A Thread (again)
What can we do to prepare for a second wave:
1. NHS Trusts - please pay any COVID-19 monies owing. ASAP.
You can’t expect people out of pocket for 6 months to step up again willingly into high risk environment.

2. Recruit. Recruit. Recruit. Solve rota gaps as best as possible with medium term solutions ie year long fellows posts with built in core skills and speciality training.
3. Encourage staff to take leave ASAP. Even a few days. Reset and restore. Vital.

4. Put in firebreak weeks into busy outpatient clinics for 6/12 or greater - create space for the system to breathe and to slot displaced patients into. Do it now. Don’t delay.
5. Stagger redeployment - what is the effect on training/research/family life - has anyone asked?

6. What local childcare provision is there? Is there a key worker school/nursery? Can your Trust book places for staff?
7. Can you have creative rostering around Key Worker School hours? More frequent short days? Job shares?

10. Flu jabs! Please encourage flu vaccination for your staff early - but please approach them with sensitivity and find convenient places and times for people to attend a quiet clean clinical area to have this done (not a table on a ward or outside a lecture theatre!!)
