From a discipleship perspective, I’m deeply concerned about the dramatic increase in white Christians who are resistant to engaging in racial justice. I assume this is largely due to politicization but also (often related) a failure to preach & disciple holistically.

🧵Thread...
I’ve often heard Galatians 3:28 & “color blindness” as noble-sounding dismissals of intentionally engaging with other ethnicities in our own communities or with matters of racial justice—because “all lives matter” or we “don’t see color,” just souls.

BUT let’s be fair w Gal 3...
There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male & female; since you are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal.3:28

1: Are you gender blind? Or do you see distinctions between male & female?

If “yes, but” unity in diversity of gifts & roles, then what are we missing w/out ethnic diversity?
2: Since we are all one in Christ, do we seek (proactively & protectively) equity & justice for all people regardless of:

Religion?
Ethnicity?
Socio-economic status?
Gender?
3. Contextually, Paul is clearly not erasing uniqueness & diversity in the name of unity—gender & ethnicity are celebrated from Gen to Rev. (though sin resulted in breakdown between ethnicities and societies resulting in slavery, warfare, & division)

So what does Gal 3 mean...
Gal3 contrasts the Church to Roman requirements for a person to be counted as a valued member of society

Political/Nationality: Are you Roman?

Socio-economic: Are you landowning/ wealthy/educated?

Gender: Are you male?

In Acts Paul appeals to right for justice as a citizen...
Regardless of politics & ethnicity, sociology-economic status, or gender, we are ALL EQUALLY citizens of Thy Kingdom Come in Christ Jesus.

The gospel doesn’t erase distinction. Instead, it gives value, rights, & belonging to all. The church doesn’t require uniformity for unity.

As white Christians, we need to prayerfully pause & listen (not self-explain) as to why there's a radical disparity in perceptions among brothers & sisters in Christ.

This is a massive rift in unity as people of God & a disturbing trend of growing further apart
