What does #fragility look like in 2020?

These are 7⃣ important trends 👇📊

1️⃣ The furthest behind are being left further behind. The difference in levels of fragility between extremely fragile and non-fragile contexts has widened, esp. over 2012-18.

2⃣ #Poverty is concentrated in fragile contexts.

Fragile contexts were home to 460 million people living in extreme poverty in 2020, or 76.5% of the worldwide total.🌏

3⃣ Progress on the majority of the #GlobalGoals has stalled.

Before #COVID19, the majority of fragile contexts were on track to meet just one SDG– #SDG13 on #ClimateAction – and progress was particularly challenged on SDG 2 (zero hunger), SDG 3 (health) & SDG 5 (gender equality).
4⃣ Official development assistance is a critical resource for fragile contexts.

Total bilateral #ODA in 2018 ($76 bn) amounted to 2.3 times the level of foreign direct investment and two-thirds the value of remittances.

5⃣ Development Assistance Committee members spent $60.3 billion on total official development assistance to fragile contexts.

Striving to protect #ODA amid the #COVID19 crisis is important to help these contexts meet short-term needs and recover better.
6⃣ Fragile contexts have greater access to diverse sources of financing alongside greater risks.

Fragile contexts received a total of $33.4 billion in foreign direct investment in 2018. But while some receive significant volumes of #FDI, others have had net disinvestment.
7⃣ #HumanCapital is a building block of sustainable development. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑🌈

Fragile contexts are lagging on critical measures of human capital. All but one of the 47 fragile contexts on the @WorldBank’s Human Capital Index fall below the worldwide average.
