2. This is the first time I've seen this statement, a president can chose any desk he wants. That makes sense, right?

"In all honesty, Boland and Courtney say they can see Trump commissioning his own custom model."
3. Also from the article:

"...there isn't just one presidential desk; there's actually six, each of them used by previous residents of the top office in the land. Each prez gets to pick, while the rejects remain in a secret storage facility in Riverdale, MD."
4. There are six Oval Office desks that President-Elect Trump could choose from. Interior designers weighed in on which desk The Donald would choose from.

**This concludes the archived thread, the rest is all new.**

Trump has suggested there may be a 7th or even an 8th desk?
5. Perhaps a 7th or 8th desk was offered to Trump, but because they had never been used by a former president, they would not be listed among the usual 6. Or, perhaps the original Resolute desk was replaced?

These 2 drops speak of "the desk" and we're SUPPOSED to be watching it!
6. Anybody remember these drops? Some sort of dangerous device was left in the white house by the Obama administration before Trump took over...something to ensure ability to retake control later on.

And, the statement was made that satan has left the white house.

I'm serious.
8. You know one thing I love about Trump? He's full of surprises...and knowledge. Did you know that 2 extremely important events happened in 1814?

The 1st event? In August of 1814, during the war of 1812, British troops set fire to our White House and other government buildings.
9. And, secondly, The Treaty of Ghent was signed by Britain and the U.S. - December 24th, 1814, effectively ending the war of 1812.

In fact, without that treaty, the likelihood of any POTUS receiving such a meaningful gift from the Queen of England wouldn't exist.
10. In 1855 a British ship called Resolute was found adrift in Arctic waters by American whalers. They towed her to America. She was repaired in Brooklyn shipyards then given back to Britain, restored. A gift. The Resolute returned to service and sailed for over 20 more years.
11. The Resolute was retired and disassembled in 1879. In 1880, Queen Victoria presented the Resolute Desk, made from timbers of that same ship, to US President Rutherford B Hayes.

So you see, the critics at WaPo could've learned something from Trump. Instead, they chose hate.
12. Without the treaty of Ghent in 1814 giving peace between our nations, the HMS Resolute probably wouldn't have been rescued by American whalers or restored and returned to Britain. And, without it, there would never have been a desk called "The Resolute" used by US presidents.
13. So, Trump was right.

Why watch the desk? To see the work being done at it. Why watch the pen? To see what it writes. Why watch the notepad? To see what is written on it.

Note: It was JFK that brought the Resolute back into the Oval office.

15. Could it be that the 7th or 8th desk Trump referred to were outside options he chose to pass up in order to use the Resolute? Maybe some presidential desks can be altered essentially making them a different desk once altered?

Maybe the Resolute itself was altered?
16. Other things you know about the Resolute if you read the links I've sent so far:

The desk HAS BEEN altered twice since Queen Victoria presented it to President Hayes.

FDR ordered a privacy door be installed on the front of the desk to hide his crippled legs from the public.
17. FDR passed away before the door installation but it was completed.

The second edition was when President Harry Truman ordered the mounting of the eagle motif onto that privacy door. That's the symbol everybody notices when looking at the desk...it too has a unique meaning.
18. You see, that eagle motif installation predated another order by Truman. Notice which way the eagle's head is facing? Toward the arrows, sign of a wartime nation. Truman ordered that motif be mounted on the privacy door.

Later, he ordered further use of that motif be banned.
19. Truman ordered the president's seal changed to show the eagle head turned the other way, towards peace.

But, there was never an order to replace the Resolute Desk's motif. It remains as a symbol of a president of war.

Will Trump replace the Eagle motif with one of peace?
20. Is this why we're watching the desk? Replacing the Resolute's war time eagle with the one symbolic of peace would make quite a statement. After all, since Truman mounted the warring motif, America has been at war, almost non-stop. A peaceful world needs a symbol of peace.
21. Or, perhaps Trump will bring back the banned Truman motif and remove the olive branch motif from further use? A symbol to always be ready and strong. Either change would be very meaningful.

Other desks have been altered by other presidents in the past. It's not unheard of.
22. I started this thread to bring back an archive that I wrote two and a half years ago. With some simple editing and then adding on quite a bit more, we got to revisit an important and symbolic part of our history. I hope you've enjoyed it.

God bless
