Has anyone thought about how much money we’ve thrown at Covid 19 as it compares to cancer funding? I have.

A thread.

We don’t yet know the lifetime risk of COVID-19 but very likely, most of us will get it at some point.

Considering the CDC’s own admission that only 6% of COVID-19 deaths were due to covid alone, the real covid-specific death total in this country is about 12,000 people.

2/
The reported # of cases is 6.6 million ppl. Which translates to 0.1% chance of dying of Covid-19 once infected (1/1000 ppl infected w/ covid will die).

This year Congress passed a $3 Trillion stimulus package for COVID (needed b/c governors panicked & shut everything down).
3/
Considering all types of cancer, your lifetime likelihood of being diagnosed with cancer is 40% (2/5 people will get cancer) and your likelihood of dying of cancer is 20% (1/5 people will die of cancer).

Framed another way, fully half of people who get cancer will die of it.
4/
How much money does Congress allocate for cancer research, you ask?

Congress gives about $6 billion annually to the NCI for cancer research.
5/
Recall the COVID spending package was $3 TRILLION. This is equal to 500 YEARS of cancer funding.

Imagine the progress we could have made in finding a cure for cancer if we spent $3 trillion on it.
6/
A final thought. The money Congress spends is YOURS. It comes from YOUR tax contributions.

Think about how they spend YOUR money when you vote in November.
