Since there are a bunch of tweets going around about whether buying Hogwarts Legacy is morally wrong, here are my personal thoughts:
- JKR gets royalties through the license and benefits from the HP brand
- devs usually don’t get royalties but get a fixed amount
- even if a lot of people boycott this game, it will still be a success bc the larger part of fans don’t care about trans rights enough to stop supporting the HP brand
- transphobia goes against everything I stand for
- JKR’s relevance & power is directly linked to the HP brand
By buying this game, i would support the harmful shit JKR throws in front of thousands of people, including children.

I try to be vocal about building a better game industry and support LGBT games and creators. To hopefully make a difference.
As a board member of Games [4Diversity] & as a pride boat organizer, but also to my friends in the LGBT community, I cannot in good conscience say I support trans people and at the same time give money to such a powerful transphobic voice. I try to put my money where my mouth is.
That doesn’t mean that you’re a bad person if you buy the game!

There are so many things in the world that need attention, and it’s hard to act on all of them.
Pick some causes that are most important to you!
And consider if this game is one of them.
