I promised a Star Wars thread. You'll get a Star Wars thread. Might not be as long as the MCU thread because 11 movies versus 22...but.
I watched The Phantom Menace at the end of last month and haven't yet watched any of the others. I've been busy with stuff. But if I'm being completely honest? I do like this movie. It's not good, it's not great. But it's about half way decent and that's good enough for me.
It may be a bit of a nostalgia soft spot, to be fair. The prequels were the movies I grew up with as a kid. Like, I had seen the OG trilogy before Phantom Menace and liked it, but Phantom Menace was what REALLY got me into it. And it's easy to see why.
It's big, dumb, and flashy with cool laser lights and stuff. I didn't care about the political aspect of it because I was young! lmao And I think watching this movie and how I was around that time just reminds me that this series is for kids.
It's okay to like and enjoy them as adults. But really. The prequels *at least* were made for kids at George Lucas's behest. And I think it's important when we're criticizing the movies to also remember the audience. They can still be not good, but hey, that happens.
I don't know where I was going there. But I enjoyed the Phantom Menace and I still kinda do when I'm bored and just want a background movie. It's good for that. I wish I had started this thread closer to when I seen the movie, so I could give more immediate reactions.
But I think we need to admit, Jar Jar just ain't that bad anymore. I literally feel no strong feelings either way when I see Jar Jar on screen anymore. It's fine, it's okay. The introduction of Darth Maul is still something that gives me chills.
