England's Man of the Summer: A Thread.
After a brilliant summer of cricket it's only right to look back at the best performers. In this thread I will present the 4 players I believe to be the main contenders for , along with some honourable mentions. Likes/RTs appreciated.
For each player I'll include runs/ wickets, averages, matches, wins and losses, Milestones, and any other comments I feel like adding. I will also include number of matches where I deem the player to be a Major Contributor (MC), meaning a big contribution. Poll at end of thread.
Honourable Mention number 1: Dawid Malan.
Malan recently became the number one T20I batsman in the world after a stellar summer. 213 runs at an average of 42.60 in 6 matches. 3 Wins, 2 Losses and 1 No Result. 2x MC
Honourable Mention number 2: Jimmy Anderson.
Anderson took his 600th Test Wicket this summer, becoming only the 4th bowler ever, and first non-spinner to pass this landmark. 32 runs @ 10.67 and 16 wickets @ 25.50 in 5 matches. 2 Wins, 2 Draws, 1 Loss. 1x MC
Honourable Mention number 3: Sam Billings.
Billings was given a chance in the White Ball sides due to the bubble system, and he grabbed it by the scruff of the neck. 358 runs @ 51.14 in 10 matches. 4 Wins, 5 Losses, 1 No Result. 2x MC.
Honourable Mention number 4: Ben Stokes
Stokes set ridiculously high standard for himself last year, and managed to live up to them. Also captained England for the first time. 372 runs @ 62.00 and 11 wickets @ 14.36 in 4 matches. 2 Wins, 1 Loss, 1 Draw. 1x MC
Candidate Number 1: Zak Crawley
Winner of the earlier poll. Crawley had his first English summer as a Test Match cricketer, and did he deliver. 426 runs @ 71.00 in 4 matches. 2 Draws, 1 Win, 1 Loss. 1x MC
Candidate Number 2: Stuart Broad
Dropped for the first Test, and came back with a vengeance. Picked up his 500th wicket during the summer, and became the 7th highest wicket taker of all time. 124 runs @ 41.33, 29 wickets @ 13.41 in 5 matches. 3 Wins, 2 Draws. 2x MC.
Candidate Number 3: Jos Buttler
Given the gloves for another summer, Buttler needed to deliver. 549 runs @ 45.75 in 11 matches showed big improvement with the bat. He took 29 catches and 1 stumping, however he missed a fair few chances as well. 6 Wins, 3 Losses, 2 Draws. 3x MC.
Candidate Number 4: Chris Woakes
One of England's most underrated players went about his business again this summer. He picked up his 100th Test wicket, and rose to the number 2 ODI all-rounder. 233 runs @ 38.83, 23 wickets @ 21.09 in 8 matches. 4 Wins, 2 Losses, 2 Draws. 4x MC.
Having read through this, admittedly very long, thread it's now your chance to choose your Man of the Summer. Is it the runs of Crawley, the wickets of Broad with the Handy runs, the resurgence of Buttler, or the all round effort of Woakes.
