ok so. i don’t really know how music in high schools works all around the world but in my head karasuno has a main orchestra and then they’ll sometimes split into smaller groups like piano trios or string quartets stuff like that

then the equivalent to the volleyball matches is when all the school orchestras or groups will compete in competitions

we have hinata ... to me he is Very Obviously a violinist and quite the chaotic one too.... accompanists hate him because his music soars all over the place (lots of flying metaphors should be used for his playing bc im a little bit evil >:))

very much like mine from nodame cantabile .... values passion and “gwahh!!!” over precision and technique . almost exclusively learns by ear

next we have tobio...pretty much the antithesis to hinata. so he’s definitely a pianist to me...i think it would be interesting for him to have an interest in conducting as well as that correlates to setting, also lets him be part of the orchestra more bc otherwise ...

anyways so I think kazuyo was a pianist too. and baby tobio spent his afternoons lying under kazuyo’s piano listening to him play chopin. there i said it.

but also his mother was a cellist i think and she taught miwa who taught tobio.... thinking about miwa and tobio duet of that early chopin piece also kid tobio tried to be just like chopin bc he thought he was cool

tobio is not a prodigy he has hyperfixated on piano from a very young age and practises a lot bc of that. when kazuyo was alive his playing was (while still technically very accurate) really free and soaring.... however after kazuyo died he became attached to the score

as a way of making sure “nothing went wrong” if you get me.... a mentality of “nothing bad can happen if i just follow the score exactly” oh i love him so much

taking a break from kghn backstory to talk about other characters... to me all setters are pianists end of story. and all aces are concert masters .

liberos are all percussionists you KNOW nishinoya has a freakishly good sense of rhythm, kuroo, tsukishima, and akaashi are all cellists. miya twins are a violin/piano duo. daichi, mattsun, aone, and taketora all play some form of brass

thinking about piano quartet karasuno first years; kageyama on piano, hinata on violin, yamaguchi on viola, tsukishima on cello

ok back to the story... i don’t want this thread to get really long so i will write it in notes and post a screenshot...strongly inspired by user ousamayama’s threads

i picture daichi and suga (suga also a pianist) coming down to hang about in the music rooms and just :O bc of how good they sound together ...

they both get into the orchestra ofc (in my universe....pianists in orchestras 2k20) and takeda/ukai/whoever partners them up

the next challenge: how to get them to work together to produce that beautiful sound again

ok im ending here sorry for spam i might make another sometime....i have so many thoughts on rival pianist oikawa who excels at liszt. and bach enthusiast sakusa and ushijima. and also woodwinds, who i seem to have forgotten about completely (tendou plays oboe)
