Our latest newsletter, on phosphine and dirigibles and planetary protection, also talks about some of the great white papers that have been written for the Planetary Science and Astrobiology Decadal Survey. So here& #39;s a little thread on those! https://justspacealliance.substack.com/p/venus-of-all-places">https://justspacealliance.substack.com/p/venus-o...
The Decadal Survey asks astronomers & planetary scientists to write about their top priorities in their fields every 10 years. Several papers for this decade& #39;s survey were focused on the topics of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA).
Tavares ( @frankrtavares) et al. wrote about planetary protection and colonialism, something that& #39;s been on our minds since the Venus phosphine announcement. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ca8RRy1MSpOAvexucgxWJIlBuNsdPRn8/view">https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c...
Khan ( @zeikonline) et al. discussed the interaction between planetary science and the US military-industrial complex, and how the moral conflict of this overlap can act as a barrier to diversity and inclusion in planetary science: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15u4bfrkiZS_zIiyP6x1IjsplLFwkkh7jRpPQT0ntl1Y/edit">https://docs.google.com/document/...
Rivkin ( @asrivkin) et al. pointed out that asteroid mining could easily worsen wealth inequality on Earth, and urged more discussion about these ethical concerns as the industry takes off: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Af9ifnCMT7kFhjsvcmGcqYZyNwWdfQoc/edit">https://docs.google.com/document/...
